ASSIGNMENT 3

  1. I'm glad you chose B & W for this image. I find it interesting that it is the dog engaging the camera/viewer, while the girl continues to be entranced by her computer (maybe even a social networking site). The composition is fluid and interesting, and I find the contrast and tonal range to be well done.

  2. I definitely agree, monochromatic was the way to go on this one. The strong flash up front provides a strong contrast against the black background, similar to the contrast seen in the dogs face and eyes. The subject is laying on a bed with her laptop, although the setting and why and what she is doing on the computer is unclear.

  3. The black and white is good, I agree, but I feel that the bottom left could be burned a bit. I feel that my eye is being drawn to that corner because of how bright it is compared to the rest of the image. It appears that the girl is working on the computer, possibly surfing some websites while her dog lays with her on her bed. It is definitely a relaxed scene, which is communicated well and emphasized by the environment (being in a personal room, on a bed).

  4. I love that "man's best friend" is no longer a dog- but a computer. The dog is staring at the viewer with a look both ignorant and content, while the girl seems immersed in the world of the computer and not particularly happy. Upon first glance, the position of the hand looks like it could be coming from the dog- almost like he is controlling the screen and the girl is merely looking on- which makes me laugh. I agree with Giselle that the lower left area is distracting in its brightness and that toning it down could put more emphasis on the subject.

  5. I also like the black and white aspect of this image. I think that it is interesting that the dog seems as though he wants to be on the bed in the image because no one is holding him there or making him be there and he is looking directly at the camera. I like that this image has a very personal feel to it. It is like a glimpse into the private time of the girl on the computer when the only person who would usually be there is the dog. I almost feel like an intruder, but I do agree that the bottom left corner is a little blown out.

  6. a very simple, personal and intimate photograph. The angle is interesting, but I think lowering the camera to be in the same kind of space as the subject, or moving the camera higher up to tower over her, would make made the image a little stronger. This makes me reflect on how people are always on their computer and how they can neglect the other things around them.

  7. This photo almost feels like an ad for apple computers. The pretty girl with her dog laying on her bed as she surfs the web or does something recreational on her computer. If she were doing some kind of work she would probably be typing or look more like she was stressed. I like the dog engaging the photo it is pretty funny. The use of flash has made the backround almost completely blacked out, which keeps the focus directly on the subjects avoiding distracting elements.

  8. I dont know what this says other than that girl is ok with her dog being in bed with her. Thats a mass produced computer and everything else is kinda nondescript. But maybe her entire world is computers and a dog with funny eyes. Maybe she and the dog both have funny eyes and funny brains because all they do is sit and look at facebook together all day. Maybe she should take that dog for a walk.
